Doctoral Degrees

Doctor of Education The Ed. D. degree in School Psychology is practitioner-oriented with training in extensive research skills aimed at program evaluation or practice-based research. Within this framework, specialization in one or more practices areas is possible, but not required. Although this degree is offered as an option, students interested in a doctoral education are encouraged to work toward the Ph.D. degree.

Doctor of Philosophy The Ph.D. degree in School Psychology is based on the scientist-practitioner model. Within this model, it is expected that the student completing this degree will attain extensive knowledge and abilities to be successful in both professional practice as well as research. It is further expected that the student will gain a depth of specialization in one or more practice and research areas. Graduates with Ph.D. degrees in School Psychology are employed as school psychologists in public and private schools as well as other educational or health care facilities, where they provide databased decision-making, assessment, consultation, intervention, and program planning services for children, youth, families, and teachers. They also engage in teaching, research, training, and program development in a number of public and private settings. The doctoral degree programs are approved by the National Association of School Psychologists.
